Posture
Introduction |
 |
Most people know that bad posture can lead to back
pain.
For example, most people know that when lifting an object from the floor, bending over
with your back is likely to cause an injury (at some stage, if not immediately). They also
know that bending down with your knees, whilst keeping your back straight, is a better way
to lift.
In this case, the basic difference between good and bad posture is relatively obvious
bending over with your back is bad; using your knees to bend down is
good. But lifting an object correctly is more subtle than this it involves a number
of things that people forget; overlook; or simply dont know about. The same is true
of other actions, whether theyre passive (for example, sitting), or active (for
example, rolling over).
For this reason, we cover the various activities individually (and in some detail)
please refer to the links on the right hand side. However, despite the fact that good
posture is conceptually easy, implementing it over the long-term is difficult. So, before
you try the activities, please read the General
Guidance notes these should help to focus your mind...
